History
Brunswick Creche and Day Nursery is the oldest community-operated creche in Victoria and, arguably, in Australia. Established in 1895, it moved to its present building in what was then Glenlyon Street in 1911.
Brunswick Creche is believed to be the first purpose-built creche in the state, and is included in the Moreland Heritage Schemeand on the Register of the National Estate.
The site at 82 Glenlyon Road was opened on July 19th 1911 by the Acting Premier, Mr Watt.
Later enhancements and additions to the creche were added as required:

Second bedroom and additional toilet added. |
1924 |
Electric light installed free of charge by Brunswick Council. |
1939 |
Construction of sunroom. |
1947 |
Creche wanted to extend facilities for 3–5 year olds, but was unable to as no building materials were available due to World War 2. |
1950 |
Property adjoining the crèche to the East purchased for £1,050. |
1957 |
New building (comprising kindergarten room, toddlers' room and toilet block) completed and front yard laid out. Completion of this work required a loan of £4,500 from Brunswick City Council. |
1958 |
New building officially opened by Dame Pattie Menzies. |
1976 |
Final payment made on 1957 loan from Council. |
1977 |
Brunswick Council remodelled the 3-5 year old back playground. |
1980 |
Carpets laid for the first time in all rooms. |
1990 |
Crèche painted throughout. |
2003 |
Major renovation launched, completed January, 2004. |
2004 |
Laid rubberised soft fall on half of front yard. |
2005 |
Received federal government grant to pay for rubberised soft fall to be laid over entire rear yard area |
