Rooms
The Creche has three separate rooms for children of different ages and development. The
three rooms provide children with a peer group at a similar developmental level, as well as experienced, personal care from our caring staff members. Our staff greet you and your child
by name, and are always happy to discuss your child's development or any concerns you
may have. They are responsive to the children's needs, and are always ready with a cuddle when needed.
A variety of activities is provided in each room, to offer your child choice, flexibility, stimulation and the chance to follow their own interests. It goes without saying that both boys and girls are encouraged to participate in all activities, including cooking, dancing, creative and physical activities. Families are also encouraged to participate in the programs on offer.
Babies' Room (Tiny Tots)
The babies' room is for children aged six weeks to 18 months. Our young babies do not follow a formal daily program, but sleep and feed on demand. Cloth nappies are provided by the centre, and nappy change times offer children extra one-on-one time with their carers, who sing and talk to them as they are changed.
Babies' needs are met and recorded for parents to review at the end of the day. A range of toys and other activities is provided to meet the babies' developmental needs.
Typical activities for babies can include:
- Baby swing
- Activity boards
- Stacking cups
- Soft toys
- Mirror play
- Assisted sitting
Mini Minors' Room
The Mini Minors' room is for children aged 18 months to three years. Most of the children in this group have a nap in the early afternoon; bulky clothing is removed, and they are encouraged to bring a comfort toy if required.
Cloth nappies are provided by the centre, or parents can supply disposables if preferred. Encouragement is given with toilet training, and staff work with parents to ensure that there
is a seamless transition between home and creche.
Typical activities in the Mini Minors' room can include:
- Reading books
- Drawing
- Dress-ups
- Home Corner
- Dancing
- Outdoor play, including sandpit and slide
Top Kids' Room
The Top Kids room is for children aged three years and up. These children are generally toilet-trained and of kindergarten age, and the carer-to-child ratio is correspondingly smaller. Most Top Kids no longer require a daytime nap, although a few prefer it, and the period after lunch is generally spent in quieter activities.
Typical activities in the Top Kids' room can include:
- Reading books
- Dressing up
- Home Corner
- Dancing
- Art and craft activities (painting, drawing, etc.)
- Jigsaw puzzles
- Co-operative games
- Construction play (blocks, train sets, etc.)
- Name recognition
- Outdoor play
- Weekly "Show and Tell" session
Top Kids are encouraged to assist in setting up and packing away activities and serving food and drink, and to take responsibility for the toys and equipment they use.
