Sun Smart
Our centre promotes sun protection and is a “Sun Smart Centre”.
The peak UV radiation periods are between 11am – 3pm during daylight saving. Outdoor
activity will be avoided during these times.
All children must wear an approved sun protective hat that is either: a broad-brimmed, bucket
or legionnaire’s style, when outdoors.
It is recommended that a sun protective hat adequately covers the face, back of the neck and
ears.
Due to the risk of children becoming entangled in hat cords and choking, the centre
recommends that the cords are removed from hats.
Loose fitting and closely woven fabrics assist in protecting children from exposure to the sun.
It is recommended that shirts have a collar to protect the nape of the neck and long sleeves.
Longer style tops and shorts are acceptable items of clothing to protect children from the sun.
Sleeveless shirts, dresses and singlet’s are not considered as appropriate clothing to protect
children from the sun. Children may need to change their clothing or not be allowed to access
outdoor play.
- Parent’s must apply sunscreen before they bring their child to crèche
- SPF 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen is applied to exposed skin of children.
- Sunscreen must be applied at least 20 minutes before commencing outdoor play
- Sunscreen must be reapplied every two hours
Nutrition
The center provides and encourages children with opportunities to experience a healthy,
balanced and nutritious meals and snacks.
The center ensures that meals and/or snack times are conducted in safe, clean, positive
environments that promote meaningful interactions between children and other persons.
The center has an additional duty of care is to ensure that children are provided with a
recommended level of nutrition during the hours of the centre’s operation.
The center’s Coordination and staff understand that there is a requirement to implement and
adhere to the centre’s Healthy Eating Policy and ensure a consistent level of practice.
The center endeavours to meet individual and family needs however, the health and safety of
children who are in care may, at times, come into conflict with cultural or family beliefs.
The center reserves the right to promote the nutritional needs of children in care at all times.
Lunches and snacks provided by the Centre will vary and will meet the daily nutritional needs of all age groups of children in attendance. Food will reflect the diversity of cultures represented in the crèche community.
The Centre provides
- Morning tea at around 9.30am (usually fresh fruit or toast)
- A two course cooked lunch at 11.00am
- Afternoon tea at 2.30pm
- Snacks at other times if required.
